Our Structure
KARN is an incorporated society and as such must function according to our bylaws. There are three groups that make up our organizational structure – our board, our operations team, and our membership. At this time KARN is a special project of Mount Olive Church, but when we gain charity status we will function as our own entity.
Our Board
According to our bylaws we can have up to nine board members. At least the following four positions should be filled on the board. These responsibilities of each of these roles are voluntary.
President
Acts as chairman at all meetings of members and meetings of the board
Is a member of all committees.
Vice President
Acts as chairman if the president is unavailable at said meetings.
Treasurer (can be combined with the secretary role)
Responsible for receiving, depositing, and disbursing all funds on behalf of the society.
Keep an accurate record of all financial transactions on behalf of the society.
Attend to the preparation of the annual, audited financial statements of the Society.
Secretary (can be combined with the treasurer role)
Keep the registry of all the members of the society.
Keep the registry of all the members of the board.
Keep accurate minutes of all meetings of member or board meetings.
Responsible for the Seal and Minute Book of the Society.
Receiving and distributing all correspondence of the Society
Sending out notices of all meetings in accordance with the bylaws.
Our Operations Team
There is parallel group of people comprised of some of the board members and others. This group meets more regularly than board meetings to make sure that the day to day business gets done. This group includes an administrator which is a paid position. We keep track of these meetings as well.
Our Society Membership
There is a broader group of people that are considered the membership of the Society.
This would be people over 18 who are familiar with the Objects (or charitable purposes) of the Society.
They become members by a favourable vote passed by the existing members. The society is looking for those who are following Christ and seeking to make a difference in the area of addiction. Members must have an interest in furthering the cause of KARN as a society in the Kneehill Region. They must also attend, at least, the AGM.
